A few weeks ago, I was packing for an overnight flight and realized something awkward: most of the movies my friends were talking about were on Tubi, free, legal, and packed with cult classics, but my flight obviously wouldn’t come with stable Wi-Fi.

Like many people, I opened the Tubi app, went hunting for a “Download” button, and found none. That’s when I started digging into what’s really possible today: what Tubi officially allows, the legal boundaries, and which offline solutions actually work on Windows and Mac without turning into a security or copyright nightmare.

Can You Download Tubi TV Shows for Offline Viewing?

Short answer: No. Tubi’s official app doesn’t do downloads or offline mode—streaming only. But you can download videos on a PC via an alternative tool, and then transfer them to any of the devices that you have and expect to watch Tubi offline on. This guide shows both a downloader path and a screen-recording fallback for special cases.

By following the tips I introduced below, you can easily download movies and shows from Tubi TV in lossless quality and watch them offline.

Is It Legal to Download Tubi TV Movies via Dedicated Tools?

As far as I concluded from the policies, principles, and practices like the Betamax case which confirmed that "the right of consumers to engage in time shifting practices for their own convenience has been established." that in most regions, any copying of Tubi videos is, at best, limited to strictly personal, time-shifted viewing, since archiving videos that are already accessible and using them for personal viewing is reasonable.

I tested these ourselves, and, yep, they can rip videos from Tubi, and the "rip" means making a personal offline copy of the Tubi content which you already have access to, just saying. And here is the comparison sheet I made from the offline Tubi copies made by them.

Before starting to pull movies from Tubi, have these ready. Besides, I have also included my configuration here for your reference, to avoid any strange technical issues.

What you need basically
  • A valid Tubi TV account
  • A Windows or Mac with a steady internet connection
  • A tool downloaded from the official site that is installed properly
What have I used
  • A valid Tubi TV account
  • Windows 11 Pro 24H2
  • 250 Mbps network
  • StreamFab 7.0.0.0 & RecordFab 1.0.1.5

By the way, not only is the official download function not published, but Tubi TV also only supports select countries on certain kinds of devices, which means if you’re outside the footprint, you might not get in at all. If you want hassle-free offline viewing, grab a personal-use-only copy with a dedicated tool.

1. StreamFab Tubi Downloader

Best for:
  • Users who want a cleaner, ad-free offline experience
  • People who maintain a personal video library and watch across multiple devices

Actually, I have used some online Tubi downloaders or browser extensions before. But currently, most of the content on Tubi is protected, and you can't tell which ones are protected and which ones aren't, so they are not as useful as before, or in some cases, they don't work at all.

you can use streamfab tubi downloader to download from tubi
  • Download movies and shows from Tubi TV in original resolution(720p)
  • Cut off Tubi TV ads automatically for a no-interrupt offline experience
  • Save videos from Tubi in MP4/MKV format on my PC devices
  • Schedule mode to download newly released videos from Tubi TV at a set time
  • Get downloads with the best-suited subtitles & metadata
  • Batch mode to add multiple Tubi videos to the task queue to save time

This StreamFab Tubi Downloader shows a much stronger support for Tubi content during my testing, with a much broader range of downloadable content. And unlike some online Tubi downloaders, it doesn't redirect me to weird shopping websites that sell a 20-buck WD 2TB MyPassport(even lower than on Temu). I actually didn't trust it at first, but after scanning it with VirusTotal and running it in Windows Sandbox for a few days, I confirmed that this is indeed a reliable Tubi video downloader.

The last step to make it the best Tubi downloaders for me is to update it with a pausepoint resume function. I'm always changing my mind about downloading which title first.
Step 1

Download and install the program, then launch it on your Windows or Mac.

It's a bit of a pity that it didn't reach 1080p, but after all, Tubi itself doesn't have much 1080p content. I won't be too strict about this; after all, a 2k bitrate is still acceptable.

2. RecordFab

Another route is recording Tubi. RecordFab is pretty different from the other regular screen recorders. On the one hand, it never shows me a black screen while I'm recording on Tubi: it is naturally compatible with Tubi DRM video recordings and is able to record Tubi to MP4 format, meanwhile, I don't have to tweak here and there to get a normal screen as I used to using OBS.

recordfab can help you save tubi content for offline viewing or backup by recording
  • Faster speed recording when you’re in a hurry, from 1x to 5x
  • Support output to 720p or 1080p
  • Compatible with DRM content on Tubi
  • A built-in browser to keep CPU use pleasantly low

On the other hand, it supports 5x faster recording speed. It's a bit impressive, but it doesn't quite reach the level of "Dude! That's sick!" However, I am somewhat surprised because it also supports background recording, meaning you don't have to keep a window open on your desktop, and it won't interfere with you watching other movies, playing games, browsing Reddit, or hanging out on YouTube Shorts. BUT! It now only supports the Windows system; sorry for macOS readers.

recordfab takes less resources than other screen recorders while recording on tubi

At the same time, its system resource usage is shockingly lower compared to other screen recording software (watch and learn, did you hear that, Chrome?).
Step 1

Open RecordFab and sign in to your Tubi account.

Step 2

Pick the exact video you want, tap “Start,” and, before rolling, set your recording parameters (resolution, audio, frame rate) to enter recording mode.

Step 3

When you’re done, hit “Stop.” That’s it—clip saved, no drama.

Step 4

Out of curiosity about the 1080p output it mentioned, I stopped recording halfway through. The actual quality is indeed improved. But I wouldn't say it's necessarily better than a downloader, after all, compared to the efficiency of a downloader, recording at 5x speed still can't quite keep up. Anyway, whether efficiency or quality is more important is purely a matter of personal preference.

Alternative methods for Android/iOS/TVs offline viewing Tubi
  • Android/iPhone: Download on PC first, then transfer via USB, AirDrop, or a file-manager app. This keeps the offline copy playable without the Tubi app.
  • TV (Roku/Fire/Smart TV): Plug in a USB drive, cast over your home network, or point a media server (e.g., Plex) at your MP4/MKV stash.

FAQs

1. How to download movies from Tubi on Android or iPhone?

You can’t do it straight on mobile. The alternative workaround’s easy, though: grab the video on a PC first (MP4/MKV, pick subs and audio), then copy it to your phone for offline watching. This solves that there is no original way to download and watch Tubi offline on a mobile device and keeps the files portable across devices.

2. Why can't I screen record Tubi TV movies?

Tubi uses DRM, technology, and some desktop recording software cannot be compatible with DRM videos, resulting in a black screen. If you encounter this problem, you can consider using dedicated streaming recording software, for example, RecordFab, which is compatible with DRM videos, or an especially-tweaked downloader like StreamFab that supports DRM content as well.

Conclusion

Tubi is fantastic as a free, ad-supported streaming service, but it simply isn’t built for official offline viewing. There’s no native download button, no premium plan that unlocks downloads, and no “hidden” mobile setting that suddenly makes long-haul flights easier.

If you really need Tubi-style content offline, you essentially have three directions:

  • Stay 100% inside the lines by buying or renting the same title from a store or service that clearly allows downloads
  • Use a downloader-style tool like StreamFab Tubi Downloader on your PC to save 720p MP4 files with subtitles and metadata for personal time-shifted viewing
  • Fall back to real-time recording with tools like RecordFab when downloads aren’t practical, accepting that it’s slower and may capture ads

Whichever route you choose, the key is to balance convenience with respect for Tubi’s terms and copyright: keep copies for personal use, don’t re-upload or share them, and avoid shady tools that turn a simple movie night into a security or legal headache.
